New legislation for electric scooters: where to ride in Nice?

Published on 02/11/2019

That's it! The LOM law concerning the circulation of electric scooters has passed. It's still a bit vague for you? Mobilboard helps you to see it more clearly.

Where do you have to circulate?

  • In built-up areas, electric scooters must circulate on cycle tracks.
  • If there are no cycle tracks, you can circulate:
    • on roads with a speed limit of between 30 and 50 km/h
    • on pedestrian areas, provided that you respect the pace and do not hinder pedestrians.
  • You are not allowed to drive on sidewalks. Or drive it by hand and without using the engine.
  • Note that any vehicle with a seat is strictly forbidden under penalty of a heavy fine.

What happens if you don't follow the rules of the road?

  • If you don't respect the traffic rules or if you ride several people on the machine, you will be fined 35 € (2nd class)
  • If you ride on a sidewalk without being authorized to do so or if you let a user under the age of 12 ride on the bike, you will be fined up to 135€ (4th class).
  • The maximum speed limit is by default 25 km/h.

But then where to ride in Nice?

The city has more than a hundred kilometers of bicycle paths that will allow you to ride.

Our rental and sales agency is located close to the Promenade des Anglais. We advise you to go directly to the Promenade. Then, two options are available to you:

  1. You can ride all along the Promenade des Anglais on the bike path to Cagnes-sur-Mer.
  2. Or go to the side of the Port to go up to the hill of the castle by taking the small road (it starts just after the war memorial on your left). Once on the hill of the castle, you will be able to admire the various points of view on the port, the Bay of Angels and the old Nice. Refresh yourself at the waterfall and learn a little more about the history of Nice. Indeed, several panels describe the history of the hill of the Castle. It is easy to walk around and the crowds are generally low.
  3. Ask us for your Route Planner to go even further and discover Nice or simply stroll easily on the hills of Nice, Villefranche sur Mer or Antibes / Juan les Pins.
